Suzhou, China – August 10, 2025 – Welding consumables manufacturer XuanRan Welding today announced the official mass-production launch of its new DeepPen 12 high-penetration, low-alloy electrode. Verified by third-party authorities and leading heavy-industry end-users, the electrode can achieve single-pass, full-penetration welds on 12 mm thick carbon or low-alloy steel in the flat position—eliminating the need for groove preparation or back-gouging and cutting total fabrication costs by 35–45 %.
- The Pain Point: Groove + Multi-Pass = Productivity Bottleneck
Conventional practice for 12 mm plate requires a 30–35° V-groove and 3–4 passes, consuming time, filler metal, and labor. Groove machining, inter-pass cleaning, and back-gouging often account for more than 50 % of the total welding cycle, while larger grooves increase heat input and distortion. - Technical Breakthrough: “Deep-Diving” Arc + Refurbished Slag System
DeepPen 12 realizes “no-groove” welding through three core technologies:
a) Deep-Arc Focused Droplet Transfer
Trace rare-earth oxides (La₂O₃-Ce₂O₃) stiffen the arc column, increasing penetration by 22 % compared with conventional J507 electrodes. The steeper temperature gradient at the pool bottom ensures complete root fusion.
b) High-Slag Surface-Tension Design
A new CaF₂-CaO-TiO₂ slag system raises surface tension to 0.38 N/m, forming a stable “bottom-support” slag layer in the 12 mm root gap to prevent lack-of-penetration or undercut.
c) Ultra-Low Hydrogen Control
Vacuum micro-alloying plus low-temperature baking keeps diffusible hydrogen ≤ 3.0 mL/100 g (glycerol method), eliminating the need for post-weld heat treatment.
